Awesome Games Done Quick is On!

It's that time of year again: Awesome Games Done Quick is running! If you've never heard of Awesome Games Done Quick (AGDQ), a brief summary: it is a video game speed running showcase event to raise money for worthy charities. A huge variety of video games are featured: action games; role-playing games; puzzle games; platformers; racing games; and everything in-between! The event runs for approximately one week (JAN 4-JAN 10) and is active for 24 hours each day. 'Round-the-clock video games! For this "running" of the event, the Prevent Cancer Foundation is being supported. From AGDQ's site...

Games Done Quick is a series of charity video game marathons. These events feature high-level gameplay by speedrunners raising money for charity. Games Done Quick has teamed up with several charities in its nine-year history, including Doctors Without Borders and the Prevent Cancer Foundation. We are currently the largest fundraising event globally for both charities!

To date, Games Done Quick has raised over 50 million dollars for charity. We also average over 3000 people in attendance at our events, including staff, volunteers, runners, and attendees just looking to have fun and support the event!

So how are we supporting AGDQ and the Prevent Cancer Foundation? For this event, we donated two sets of video-game themed drink coasters. How does this help? Our items are used as prize incentives during prize blocks. The way it works is a set of prizes become "active" during a block of games. You earn a chance to win a prize in that block by donating when those prizes become active. A larger donation will enter you into the pool for the more valuable prizes. You can potentially win a prize from us (or other fantastic craftspeople) and support charity at the same time!

The first set of coasters we donated are carved from solid Red Oak wood. This set of four wooden coasters features a burned design of retro video game controllers: a Super Nintendo; Sega; Playstation; and X Box controller are showcased. Each coaster has a carved drip ring to catch condensation from a glass and a cork bottom to protect the surface the coaster is placed upon. The wooden coasters are finished with a durable wood finish to resist scratches, dings, and moisture.

The coaster set includes a carved wooden Red Oak stand with steel pins to corral the coasters. The stand has a carved D-pad controller design, a feature common to most video game controllers. You can see more details about this coaster set on its product page here: Retro Game Controller Red Oak Wood Coasters with Stand

The second set of coasters that we donated is one of our most popular types of coaster. This is a set of five carved wood and resin Pokéball coasters and an included carved wooden Red Oak stand. Each coaster starts life as a carved wooden "dish" that is then filled with colorful resin and top-coated with a durable, crystal-clear finish that resists scratches, dings, and moisture. The sides and bottoms of the wooden coasters are finished with a traditional, durable wood finish.

The Red Oak wooden stand corrals the five coasters and has a carved D-pad design (similar to the Retro video game coaster stand). Each wooden peg that holds the coasters has had its edge rounded over, so your hands don't get scraped reaching for a coaster. The wooden base is also finished with a traditional, hand-rubbed wooden finish that resists moisture and dings.

For this donation set, I wanted to feature some less-common Pokéballs, so in this set are: the Love Ball, Net Ball, Dusk Ball, and Quick Ball, and a standard Poké Ball. We have supported Games Done Quick for several years, and they always put on a great show. If you'd like to see what they are all about, you can visit their site at: Games Done Quick

Best of luck to the staff and runners on another successful event!
