Frost Fatales is On!
Share
We are in the wild weather transition from winter to spring, which can only mean: Frost Fatales is running! If you've never heard of Frost Fatales (the winter edition of Frame Fatales), a brief summary: it is an all-women video game speed running showcase event to raise money for worthy charities. A huge variety of video games are featured: action games; role-playing games; puzzle games; platformers; racing games; and everything in-between! The event runs for approximately one week (March 8 - March 14) and is active from about noon through 11PM each day (Central Time). For this "running" of the event, the National Women's Law Center is being supported. The previous Frame Fatales event (Flame Fatales 2025) raised $151,448 for the Malala Fund!

So how are we supporting Frost Fatales and the National Women's Law Center this year? For this edition of Frost Fatales, we donated a handmade wooden Zelda-themed flower vase and wooden flower. How does this help? Our donation items are used as prize incentives during prize blocks throughout the event. The way this works is when that prize becomes active (for example, during a block of Zelda games from noon through 4PM), donations during that time can earn eligibility for that prize (along with other active prizes during that period). Larger dollar-amount donations earn a spot in the pool for higher-value prizes. A charitable person could potentially win a prize from us (or other fantastic craftspeople) and support a worthy charity at the same time!

The vase that we donated is a wooden bud vase with a Korok (a character from Zelda) design on the front. The sides of the vase are a lamination of different species of wood, and the front features differing species of wood as well (African Mahogany, Walnut, Maple, Red Oak). Not wanting to give an empty vase, we also made a hand-turned African Mahogany flower with a Maple wood central bud. This was mounted on a solid brass stem and placed into the vase. The vase is watertight, so the wooden flower can be removed and fresh flowers placed inside if desired. You can see more details about the vase on its product page at: Handmade Wood Zelda Korok Bud Vase with Handmade Wooden Flower.

We have supported Frame Fatales (both Frost Fatales and Flame Fatales) for several years. We wish everyone involved the best of luck on a successful event!
